RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — March Madness is upon us.
While fans are looking to score deals on tickets, the Better Business Bureau warns that scammers are also hoping to win big.
"We see a lot of scams associated with March Madness," said Nick Hill, the senior digital marketing specialist for BB
B Eastern Carolinas. "These can be anything from fake ticket scams to fake merchandising scams."
With sports betting being fairly new to North Carolina, the BBB is now seeing scams involving it in the Tar Heel State.

"A lot of these sports betting scams we see also happen on social media," Hill said. "It will be an ad for maybe an unknown sports betting company or it will be impersonating one of the big brands that you are aware of. They will offer these great deals, money back guarantees if you lose your bet."
"You just have to be careful with those and make sure you are on a verified sports betting service before you place your bets," he continued.
One of the more well-known scams involves the sale of fake tickets, often on social media.
"Because we do have parts of the tournament happening in North Carolina, we do see ticket scams happen here a lot," Hill said. "With these ticket scams, it's oftentimes people posing as third party sellers to peddle fake tickets."
The BBB recommends consumers go to the seller directly or to verified online sellers. It also recommends visiting the BBB website to see if a business is accredited and to check its reviews. ...read more read less
