High wind watch for the Death Valley area for Monday and Tuesday

Death Valley National Park, Eastern Sierra Slopes of Inyo County, Owens Valley and White Mountains of Inyo County are the focus of a high wind watch released at 1:01 a.m. on Sunday by the National Weather Service. The watch is valid from Monday 5 a.m. until Tuesday, Mar. 18 at 5 a.m.
“Southwest wi
nds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible,” the NWS Las Vegas NV said. “Strong westerly winds are expected across the ridgelines of the eastern Sierra, White Mountains, Panamint Range, and higher terrain of Death Valley on Monday. Strong downslope winds reaching Highway 395 in the Owens Valley are also a concern.”
“Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Widespread power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles traveling along Highway 395 in the Owens Valley,” according to the NWS. “Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates. Fasten loose objects or shelter objects in a safe location prior to the onset of winds.”
