Pittsford hockey falls to topranked West Genesee in state semifinals

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WROC) — Pittsford's quest for their first-ever state title will last at least another year as the Panthers fell to top-ranked West Genesee 2-1 in the state semifinals on Saturday.
After a scoreless first period, West Genesee's Christian Ball popped in a rebound for a power-play g
oal to give the undefeated Wildcats a 1-0 lead.
Pittsford answered on a power play of their own in the period, when Evan Weiner redirected a point shot from defenseman Drew Ricketts to make it 1-1.
The game remained tied until late in the third period when Micahel Vetter scored on a rebound with just under five minutes to play.
Pittsford generated a few quality chances with their goalie pulled, but none found the back of the net.
Aden Brown had another strong game in net for Pittsford, making several key saves including one on a breakaway in the second period.
Pittsford has won 16 sectional titles in its program history, but it is still seeking its first state championship. They last made the state semifinals in 2023, where they also lost to West Genesee. ...read more read less
