Titletown adds boys basketball trophy to its collection

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Artesia, a town known for its pedigree in winning championships, had gone 28 years since its last one in boys basketball. The drought is now over.

The Bulldogs entered the state tournament as the No. 2
seed in class 4A and climbed the latter all the way to the championship game against the reigning champ, Highland. Artesia won 55-48.
The size and physicality of the Bulldogs presented multiple challenges for Highland that the Hornets couldn't seem to overcome. Highland finished the game 19-62 (30.6%) from the field. Five of the seven Artesia players to enter the game recorded at least 5 rebounds.
On offense, thee Bulldogs scored in double-figures. Charlie Campbell led the charge with 15.
"These guys put in the work, they put in the time, they did it together," said head coach Michael Mondragon. "All day long. I'm just so proud of them. Happy for them, happy for our town, happy for our community and that blue trophy is coming back south were it belongs."
Overall, the win is the third in Artesia boys basketball history and comes on the 30th anniversary of the program's first. The Bulldogs finished the season 21-9. ...read more read less
