32 displaced after fire spreads to multiple buildings in east Austin

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Thirty-two people were displaced after a fire on Saturday spread to three buildings in east Austin.
According to the Austin Fire Department, the fire happened around 3 p.m. in the 6800 block of Wentworth Drive. That's off Loyola Lane.
AFD said a large, two-story duplex caugh
t fire, and due to windy conditions, the flames spread to another duplex next door and a house behind it.
The fire was accidental, AFD said, related to a BBQ pit.

One firefighter was hurt and was being evaluated on-scene. AFD also reported three dogs and a cat died in the fire.
Thirty-two people have been displaced, and now the Red Cross is helping them, AFD said.
Fire crews will stay at the scene until at least 11 p.m. Saturday to monitor for hotspots, AFD said. ...read more read less
