KENDALLVILLE, Ind. (WANE) -- A group gathered in Kendallville Saturday afternoon rallying for equality and inclusion.
Friends of Dorothy, an LGBTQ+ advocacy group, were in attendance at Saturday's protest alongside several area residents, in downtown Kendallville. Protestors carried signs represe
nting causes such as LGBTQ+ rights, anti-hate and others.
WANE 15 also observed signs highlighting the current Ukraine-Russia conflict that read, "in a world of Putins, be a Zelensky."
Zion McNull, with Friends of Dorothy of Noble County said the event was created in protest of "White Pride Event," planned to take place in downtown Kendallville.
According to McNull, the group later found out the original event was falsely created and not going to happen.
"Instead of having an anti-nazi protest, how about we have a protest for equality and inclusion," McNull said, reflecting on their decision to move forward with the rally.
McNull said that while they had a few people yell out windows from passing cars, the community showed a positive response to the group that gathered at Kendallville City Hall.
"This has got to be the biggest action we've seen in Kendallville," McNull said.
McNull's overall message with the protest was to ensure that everyone still knows they have the power for change.
"With all the bad stuff happening in our country right now, we still have the power," McNull said. "We're not a nation of enemies, at each inflection point we have had we always decided to move forward, not backwards." ...read more read less
