(TELLER COUNTY, Colo.) — A Teller County District Judge has ruled in a lawsuit that attempted to invalidate a short-term rental (STR) ordinance in Woodland Park. In Dec. 2024, two plaintiffs, Sekowski and Teller County Short-Term Rental Alliance, filed a complaint against the City of Woodland P ark and looked to annul Ordinance 1469, Series 2023. The ordinance states requirements for short-term rentals, including where they are allowed to be licensed and operate within city limits. On Friday, March 14, a judge issued a ruling denying the plaintiff's request. “I find a preliminary injunction is not warranted, and the motion for apreliminary injunction is denied," court documents said. According to court documents from the ruling, Judge William Moller listed various reasons and noted that granting an order to stop the ordinance would 'not serve the public's interest. Documents state that Ordinance 1469 was enacted by 59% of Woodland Park voters. “The Judge has issued a ruling denying the plaintiff’s motion for preliminary injunction. Basedon this ruling, the City will begin fully enforcing Ordinance 1469. Short-term rentals operatingin violation of Ordinance 1469 will begin receiving communication from the City’s CodeEnforcement team.” stated City Manager Aaron Vassalotti.
