Mar 15, 2025
Fairport Harbor Civic Club is getting ready for its Founders Day celebration.
During the event, the club will salute James Clark as Citizen of the Year. Janice Kondik will be posthumously honored as recipient of the Golden Beacon Award.
Winners of both awards were announced by the club in February.
Kondik died March 4 at the age of 86.
This year’s Founders Day celebration is slated for 5:30 p.m. March 22 at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 316 Fifth St. in Fairport Harbor Village. Admission is free and light refreshments will be served.
Clark, the club’s 2025 Citizen of the Year, owns and operates Rego’s Brickhouse Pizza at 326 New Fourth St.
He is being recognized for his contributions to Fairport Harbor School District and the community, the Civic Club stated in a news release.
“James donates his time and money to helping others, such as making donations to the McKinley Elementary PTO and Harding High School sports programs,” the release stated. “He also has made contributions to Feeding Fairport’s Hungry; and on Labor Day, he gives all sales proceeds to his employees who work on that day.”
In addition, Clark has offered his business to serve as a warming center for people in need during power outages.
Janice Kondik will be posthumously honored as the Fairport Harbor Civic Club’s 2025 Golden Beacon Award winner for lifetime achievement. Kondik died March 4 at age 86. Meanwhile, the club will posthumously pay tribute to Kondik as winner of the club’s 2025 Golden Beacon Award for lifetime achievement.
She was a member of the Hungarian Reformed Church in Fairport Harbor and helped to raise funds for the church’s Women’s Fellowship Committee through dinners and Hungarian doughnut sales. In addition, she participated in the church’s Christmas bazaar.
Kondik also received a certificate from Lt. Gen. Robert Miller of the U.S. Air Force in recognition of her daughter’s 35 years of service, the news release stated.
At the club’s March 22 celebration, there also will be an anniversary presentation in recognition of the past 20 recipients of the Golden Beacon Award.
