Indiana Comic Con, Big Ten tourney, Monster Jam converge in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — It is a clash of the fans in downtown Indianapolis as three major events are set to converge on the city this weekend.
Indiana Comic Con kicked off on Friday afternoon and ends Sunday evening. The
Big Ten Men’s Basketball Tournament started on Wednesday and will end on Sunday. Monster Jam, a monster truck show, takes over Lucas Oil Stadium on Saturday.
All of this combined leads to a jam packed weekend in the Circle City but one that is full of Hoosier Hospitality across all three groups.
Comic Con fans were happy to take to the convention center and show off their cosplays and meet the celebrities that came to town.
Keziah Muthama, dressed as Poison Ivy, and her friend Mallory Anness, dressed as Harley Quinn, waswere attending their first Indiana Comic Con on Friday.
“I stayed up all night working on this costume,” Muthama said. “I just like making costumes.”
She hand glued each leaf onto her outfit.
“Six hours just on (the top) alone and then it took me a few hours to get all of the rest of the stuff together,” Muthama said.
Anness had the same dedication to her costume.
“I had been Harley Quinn before and I was like I am going to re-wear the costume and then I got a whole new costume and I had to rework a bunch of it. But I spent 6 hours on the wig alone,” Anness said. “All together probably like 14 hours.”
Ashlie Massey said she went to the national Comic Con in San Diego and prefers the speed of the Indiana event better.
“It’s really cool here. I like getting to meet the people it’s actually nice getting the chance to meet the people because out there’s just too many people,” Massey said. “You don’t have to wait as long for the celebrities and stuff because out there it’s just ridiculous. You can’t have any fun when there’s just too many people.”
She was with Jordon Gates, a Star Wars and Star Trek fan who was excited to hear from people in the industry.
“I’m a big Star Wars nerd and that kinds of stuff,” Gates said. “Stuff I’ve always been interested in so it’s definitely cool to come here and meet the people who took part in making it.”
Another group, Purdue basketball fans, were out in the city too. What feels like a world away in interests was only two blocks away in reality.
Lucy McFarland is only 11-years-old and one of Purdue’s biggest fans.
“My parents went to Purdue for college and Purdue is just the best college ever,” McFarland said. “They have good fans. Good players and Zach Edey and Braden Smith are the best.”
Craig Dragash was heading to the Purdue game with his wife Denise earlier in the evening.
“Very excited,” Craig said. “Kinda hit a little skid lately but hoping they will bring it back and take one home tonight.”
“It’s great to see all of the Big Ten madness around here. I love it,” Denise said. “A Purdue victory of course.”
