Covington residents prepare for upcoming severe weather

COVINGTON, Tenn.-- Several counties across the Mid-South are preparing for possible severe weather, including those in Tipton County.
Covington residents say they are praying for the best but preparing in case of the worst. Around this time two years ago, an EF 3 (Enhanced Fujita scale) tornado r
avaged parts of Tennessee, including the city of Covington.
“It was scary, our house to get affected, but some of my family got affected by it, and it, like, flipped my aunt in a car, so it was pretty saddening for us in our community,” said Katie Carter.
Severe storms possible Friday night, Saturday in the Mid-South
Severe storm threats are present across parts of the Mid-South. Covington residents were making their way to the grocery store to grab last-minute necessities.
“Since I don’t have a storm shelter, I try to find the nearest place I can go to where there is protection," said another resident, Cornelius Carswell. "So far, I’ve been blessed to overcome.”
Experts say preparation is key. Find your safe space and have a plan to take shelter if needed. Move away from windows and secure loose items. Strong winds with the potential to blow down trees and powerlines are possible.

“You know, there is a growing concern, especially Tipton County, right, being affected two years ago," said Tipton County Emergency Management Baker McCool. "We're still feeling that staying, and it's kind of raised awareness around here for sure.”
In the case of an emergency, keep an emergency weather kit that includes water, non-perishable food items, chargers, batteries, and flashlights.
