Sen. John Hoeven talks latest vote to avoid government shutdown

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KXNET) — On Friday evening, senators in Washington D.C. are finishing a series of votes to avoid a government shutdown.
North Dakota senator John Hoeven says he spoke to President Trump on Friday, but the votes will pass a continuing resolution to fund the government. For that
to happen, Hoeven says at least seven Democrat senators would have to support the plan to reach the 60-vote threshold.
Hoeven says the continuing resolution reduces spending and military funding, which earlier today, New York senator Chuck Schumer announced he would support.

"We actually reduced spending for the first time in a long time," Sen. Hoeven said. "And of course, you know, they don't like that. But that's good because we've got to address the debt and the deficit. Also, we actually put enough money in the bill to make sure we covered the increase in pay for our military, and we gave the military flexibility and is part of reducing costs. We took out all the earmarks, so the things in there that I think are very good, but obviously Democrats don't like them."
The resolution will fund the government through September.
If the bill failed in the senate, it would trigger a partial government shutdown after midnight.
