Highspeed chase with a stolen gun ends outside a Hanford grocery store

HANFORD, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A high-speed pursuit that started in Hanford and took police and other law enforcement on a 32-mile chase ended when the suspect crashed into a light pole in a grocery store parking lot, police say.
According to Hanford Police, the chase began early Friday morning fo
llowing a traffic stop in the area of Fourth Street and Phillips Street in Hanford. The driver, officers say, was showing signs of intoxication before becoming combative with officers. The officer used a taser to try to subdue the suspect, but the suspect managed to get away.

Officers say the suspect drove away and the resulting chase reached speeds of up to 100 miles per hour. The suspect was described as swerving towards officers, brake checking, and at one point ramming a Hanford Police patrol vehicle. Officers say the suspect eventually lost control of the vehicle after a spike strip was used.
The pursuit ended when the suspect crashed into a light pole in the parking lot of a Save Mart in Hanford, police say. Inside the vehicle, officers found a stolen handgun and open alcohol containers, police say.
The suspect, 45-year-old Scott Scilagyi, was arrested and booked into Kings County Jail on suspicion of felony evading, assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, felon in possession of a firearm, DUI and resisting arrest. ...read more read less
