SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre, Deputy Mayor Carolina Chavez, San Diego City Council Member Vivian Moreno and Businessman Louis Fuentes all showed up to the District 1 Board of Supervisors Special Election debate Thursday.
With less than a month to go, these candid
ates and a few others are all vying for the position of supervisor.
“If your inaction is harming our community in South Bay, I want to make sure that we take action,” said Aguirre
“If you are my constituent, you are my boss -- that’s the way I see it,” said Moreno.
“Make a decent living, all of that translates into a better quality of life for your family,” said Fuentes.

“We are producing $60 billion in international trade, and we are giving it to the federal and state government," said Chavez. "And we need to get our share."
All four candidates that showed up know the clock is ticking.
The problems are evident to all the candidates who are pledging to focus on homelessness, home affordability and the sewage flowing from the Tijuana River Valley that's sickening residents of the South Bay.
“Vivian Moreno is the strongest, hardest worker out there," said Moreno of herself. "Pound for pound, I have brought more to the South Bay than any of my counter parts.”
“We are working honestly. If you have time, I have time," said Chavez. "Call me up. I’ll give you my cell phone number: 619-721-3556. Call me up, campaign, get to know me."
“We have the Democratic Party endorsement. We have the endorsement of the two largest unions in the county workers," said Aguirre. "People are tired of the high cost of living. People are tired of not being able to be housed. People are tired of the sewage crisis. People are tired of our economy being impacted and they are ready for change, and I am the person for change."
“We’ve been scared into thinking we have to vote Democrat. I’ve worked with both sides of the isle from president Obama’s administration to Governor Schwarzenegger," said Fuentes. "I’ve been a Republican, but I went to Cal Berkley, so how bad of a Republican could I be?”
The special election ends April 8 and will determine the balance of power at the San Diego County Board of Supervisors. ...read more read less
