Mar 14, 2025
CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) - Friday is National Pi Day, which recognizes the mathematical constant π, also known as pi.
The Roost in Northampton closes its doors this weekend
The first three digits of pi are 3.14, which is March 14th, celebrated by pi enthusiasts and pie lovers, according
to the National Day Calendar. Pi is the ratio between the circumference of a circle and its diameter and has been used by Egyptians and Babylonians to build since 2000 BC.
Mathematicians like Archimedes, Fibonacci, François Viète, Adriaan van Roomen, and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz all calculated pi using different methods. In 1706, Welsh mathematician William Jones introduced the Greek letter π to represent the ratio of a circle’s circumference; pi.
There are a few ways you can observe National Pi Day, such as seeing how many numbers you can remember, watching the Life of Pi, or eating a slice of pie. Yelp has put together a list of the best places to get a slice of pie in western Massachusetts.
