Man accused by Rep. Nancy Mace of being 'sexual predator' sues for defamation
Mar 14, 2025
LEXINGTON, S.C. (WSAV) -- The law firm of Bland Richter, representing Brian Musgrave, has filed a motion in response to Representative Nancy Mace's (SC-01) accusations of drug and sex crimes against Musgrave.
In a press release on Friday, the firm announced a complaint motion filed against Mace,
the Republican who has held her seat since 2021, for "defamation of character and other claims."
Musgrave is one of four men identified by Mace in a Feb. 10 speech on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives detailing "heinous crimes" against multiple women including herself over the past year.
The full press release reads as follows:
On the evening of February 10, 2025, Congresswoman Nancy Mace, in a speech meant for the entire world to hear, falsely and recklessly accused Brian Musgrave of being a rapist, a sexual predator and a sex trafficker during a speech from the floor of Congress. She has republished the same accusations countless times outside of the floor of Congress, through spoken words, photographs, social media posts, and has done so both directly and through third parties. Congresswoman Mace was asked to retract her allegations against Brian Musgrave and issue an apology and/or to produce any evidence to support her allegations. Having done neither, Bland Richter announces the filing of Brian Musgrave’s Complaint against Congresswoman Mace for defamation of character and other claims. Through the lawsuit, Musgrave seeks to restore his good name and reputation as he enjoyed the same prior to Nancy Mace’s false accusations. As one can imagine, these accusations have not only destroyed Brian Musgrave, but have also inflicted great pain on his wife and children. While Congresswoman Mace is afforded certain protections for her activities as a member of Congress, the suit seeks to test the legal limits of that protection, as Musgrave contends the mere fact Ms. Mace was elected to serve as a United States Congresswoman does not grant her the power to destroy a man’s reputation with impunity and use the hallowed floor of the House of Representatives as a sanctuary to destroy him. It is unfortunate that Ms. Mace has rejected the repeated offers simply to retract her allegations against Brian Musgrave and apologize. She has elected instead to litigate these matters. Truth is the defense to defamation. Brian Musgrave welcomes the truth.

WSAV News 3 has reached out to Rep. Mace's office for comment and are waiting for a response.
The complaint document claims that Musgrave was not present at the Isle of Palms condominium, where she temporarily resides, where these alleged acts took place.
