From Irish beer parties to Spanish wine dinners – with a lot in between – this week promises to be a fantastic one in Baltimore. Here’s a look at what’s happening:Openings & announcementsLiv’s Tavern, a new concept from White Oak Hospitality, the company that owns Bandito’s (among ot
her places), will open this summer in the Federal Hill space formerly occupied by Mother’s.Speaking of Bandito’s, its Fed Hill outpost is closing and will be replaced by Game On Bar + Arcade. The Sagamore Pendry has a couple new offerings: a jazz and R&B brunch on Sundays in Rec Pier Chophouse and a boozy tea service in The Cannon Room, serving tea from Baltimore’s Cured Leaves Tea Co. With the warmer weather arriving, Citron has opened its lakefront terrace for the season. Clavel’s outdoor seating is also open now – and with the opening, the restaurant has introduced an updated spring menu. Sadly, Hampden’s Charm City Chocolate has closed its doors. The team behind the sweet shop has plans to move into a smaller production space and is still offering a selection of www.mycurbsidechocolate.com. Heritage burritosHeritage Smokehouse has brought back a COVID-era favorite: carryout burritos. For $30, you can take home a bag of five frozen burritos – and they are worth it! This week’s filling is smoked brisket, potato and green chile; they’re only available until the batch runs out. St. Patrick’s Day celebrationsSt. Patrick’s Day is Monday, which means that all weekend long, the city will be decked out in green – and there will be plenty of ways to celebrate.At The Manor Tavern, there’s a lineup of drink and food specials including colcannon and lamb stew. Guinness Open Gate Brewery’s Irish Village festivities are in full swing, with live music, Irish dancing, and tons of Irish food and drink.Through Monday, the Corner Pantry menu includes specials like corned beef scone sandwiches and colannon soup. https://www.facebook.com/thecornerpantrylakefalls?fref=ts#Café Gia might be Italian but its special new dessert is on the menu in honor of St. Patrick: a pretty green pistachio cannoli.James Joyce has live music and other events, like Irish dancing, all weekend long and through Monday. As is always the case, there are multiple big parties around town, including Claddagh Pub’s 30th annual Meet in the Street, which takes place Friday, Saturday and Sunday and a festive lineup of events at Mick O’Shea’s, especially during the parade on Sunday and on St. Patrick’s Day proper. Plus, Slainte in Fells Point will open at 6 a.m. every day from March 14-17. Wines of northern SpainOn Sunday, La Cuchara offers a break from the Guinness and green beer with a wine dinner exploring the wines of northern Spain. The event features a five-course shareable tapas menu along with five wines from Rueda and Ribera del Duero – and two winemakers on hand to discuss the wines. Focaccia at HEXAlso on Sunday, Café Campli’s Chef Ryan Scalfari will pop over to HEX Superette to teach a class about making focaccia. The class includes hands-on training, as well as instruction about sourcing local ingredients and different techniques. Attendees will leave with their own focaccia dough, which will be rising and can be baked at home. Alma x EkibenCorned beef and cabbage isn’t the only culinary option available on St. Patrick’s Day. Also on Monday, Ekiben will pop up at Alma Cocina Latina for two seatings of a dumpling-focused meal that is sure to be amazing. Cobb Wines dinner at CharlestonOn Wednesday, Charleston hosts Ross Cobb, the proprietor of Cobb Wines, for a five course tasting menu paired with the winery’s selections. Robert Foley at The Milton InnAlso on Wednesday, The Milton Inn welcomes winemaker Robert Foley for a four-course dinner featuring dishes paired with his big Napa wines. Courses include dishes like grilled sweetbreads with roasted mushrooms and spec, and duck leg confit paired with three different reds. Pizza-making at KneadsWednesday evening also presents an opportunity to learn how to make homemade pizzas. The class, held at Kneads in Harbor East, includes pizza and wine, with other drinks and food available to purchase. BSC Happy Hour Tour at CostieraBaltimore Spirits Co.’s monthly pop-up happy hour lands at Costiera this week. On Thursday, the BSC crew will be at Costiera with $6 drinks, food specials, tastings and more. B’More TogetherOn Thursday, local chefs will pop up at the Four Seasons Hotel for a one-night event supporting Camp B’More, an organization that annually transforms a floor of the Four Seasons into a camp-style experience for children who have been impacted by cancer.The lineup includes the Four Seasons crew as well as teams from Foraged, H3irloom Food Group, Order of the Ace, Rumhouse, True Chesapeake, Victoria Restaurant Group, and Charm City Cakes. Mike Rowe in townAlso on Thursday, one of Baltimore’s favorite sons, Mike Rowe, will be in town for an afternoon of festivities at Guilford Hall Brewery. The event, dubbed “A Knobel Cause” will also feature Rowe’s whiskey, called Knobel after his grandfather, Carl Knobel. Champagne Surprise at Bunny’sAlso on Thursday, Bunny’s is throwing a Champagne-centric dinner party featuring five courses paired with a variety of different bubbles. Spanish tapas wine supperOn Friday, March 21, Chef’s Expressions hosts a Spanish tapas wine dinner at the Gramercy Mansion. The menu includes dishes like San Sebastian-inspired seafood salad paired with a Licia Albariño, and pork belly tart with poached cherries paired with Faustino Gran Riserva Rioja. Oyster Week beginsNational Oyster Week starts on Friday, March 21 and local oyster-loving spots are going all-in with events, specials and donations. At Gertrude’s, $1 from every oyster dish ordered between March 21-31 will be donated to Oyster Recovery Partnership. The menu will also include some special oyster dishes, like Maryland oyster stew.
