SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) - The Green-Meldrim House is hosting an event in recognition of the 200th anniversary of Lafayette's return to America. Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, Marquis de La Fayette, known in the United States as Lafayette, was a French nobleman and mil itary officer who volunteered to join the Continental Army, led by General George Washington, in the American Revolutionary War. In 1824, at the invitation of President James Monroe, Lafayette returned to the United States as the nation's guest and visited all 24 states.
