FRESNO, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - Nearly $10 million has been approved for the construction of a new park in Fresno that Councilmember Annalisa Perea says will bring tribute to "a civil rights icon who has dedicated her life to justice and empowerment."
A contract of $9,950,023.15 was approved for the
construction of the new 4.5-acre Dolores Huerta Park at 4550 W. Dakota Ave., in northwest Fresno during Thursday's city council meeting.
According to officials, the park will include playgrounds, a splash pad, multi-use courts, a skate park, dog park, shaded seating and restrooms. The project will also include landscaping improvements, new sidewalks, street lighting, bike lanes and road enhancements along West Dakota Avenue.
"For far too long, this area has lacked the park infrastructure it deserves. That changestoday," said Perea. "Dolores Huerta Park will not only be a place for families to gather and children to play, but it will stand as a lasting tribute to the civil rights icon who has dedicated her life to justice and empowerment."
Construction is expected to begin later in 2025, and the project is anticipated to be completed in 2026, per officials. ...read more read less
