COLUMBIA, S.C. (WOLO)– The Traffic Safety Unit (TSU) with the Columbia Police Department has arrested a woman they believe was involved in a deadly collision last month. According to CPD, 23 year old-Maydellin Najarro-Macario is being charged with reckless homicide after police say she was involv
ed in a crash that claimed the life of a young girl riding in the car with her.
Police say February 18, 2025 around 7 a.m. they were called to the 600 block of Spears Creek Church Road. When officers arrived to the scene of the accident they discover a juvenile female who was unresponsive. The female victim was taken to an area hospital where authorities say she was pronounced dead.
Columbia Police say Najarro-Macario is accused of failing to properly restrain the child in a car seat which is required by South Carolina law. Authorities say the child was unrestrained and not properly strapped into her child safety seat in the passenger seat of the car at the time of the crash.
Najarro-Macario is being held at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center (ASGDC).
