RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) — It was a dramatic way to do it, but Green Run's boys basketball team won the Virginia High School League Class 5 state title, getting a buzzer-beating layup from Kass Jackson to top Albemarle 43-41 Thursday at the Siegel Center at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond . The Stallions (23-2) led 11-8 after the first quarter and extended the margin slightly to 22-16 at halftime. Albemarle, however, pulled even by the end of the third quarter at 31-31, setting the stage for a dramatic fourth quarter, and a dramatic ending in favor of Green Run. Albemarle, trailing by two points with just seconds left, scored to tie the game at 41-41. But Jackson took the inbounds pass and raced upcourt, driving to the basket and beating two Albemarle defenders to put in a layup as time expired, setting off a raucous celebration.
