INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Colts general manager Chris Ballard has been consistent this offseason that they are bringing in competition for Anthony Richardson at the quarterback position.
They did that, signing Daniel Jones to a one-year, $14 million deal.
Jones is looking forward to the oppo
rtunity to compete for the starting quarterback job and had great things to say about Anthony Richardson.
“It’s an opportunity to come in and compete,” Jones said. “I’m looking forward to that. I have a lot of respect for Anthony (Richardson), watching him. I think he’s certainly a talented young player and I think the competition aspect of it brings out the best in everybody. I think we’re both interested in helping this team win games and whatever we can do to help that happen.”
Jones chose to come to the Colts over the Vikings, where he ended the 2024 season. He detailed why he decided to make that choice.
“I think you look at the team and you look at the success they’ve had,” Jones said. “I think offensively (they’re) doing a lot of really good things. I think coaching staff wise, I’ve always had a lot of respect for coach (Shane) Steichen. He’s been successful in a number of places as an offensive coach and I think he’s built a really good staff.”
Jones was with the Giants for six seasons and was their starting quarterback in New York. He led the Giants to the playoffs in 2022 and beat the Vikings in the Wild Card Round.
Jones said that he is still confident in his ability to play quarterback at a high level, and added that he thinks that there’s still a lot of good football ahead of him.
