Train and semitrailer collision in Fond du Lac County causes secondary crash, injuring one

RIPON, Wis. (WFRV) - One person was injured Wednesday in Fond du Lac County after a train collided with a semi-trailer when it failed to yield, leading to a secondary crash and substantial damage to all three vehicles involved.
According to the Ripon Police Department, dispatch was notified of a
collision involving a train and a semi on Douglas Street between Fenton and East Jackson Streets around 2:15 p.m. on March 12. Shortly after, it was reported that an additional vehicle was involved as well.

After an investigation by responding officers, it was determined that the northbound semi on Douglas Street failed to yield to the train, causing the train engine to collide with the trailer of the semi.
The collision caused the semi-trailer to crash into a southbound vehicle that was stopped and waiting for the train to cross.
Officers say that one person was injured, however, it was not stated which vehicle the victim was in. It was noted that substantial damage was caused to the semi, train engine, and secondary car.

The driver of the semi was reportedly cited for failure to yield the right of way. The train engine was operated by Wisconsin and Southern Railroad.
