(NEXSTAR) — This week, legendary horror director and celebrated composer John Carpenter this week announced a one-night-only concert in New York City just before Halloween later this year. The director, known for films like "Halloween" and "The Thing," will be joined by longtime collaborators Dani
el Davies and son Cody Carpenter.
The rare event — Carpenter's first live show in New York since 2018 — will be held at Knockdown Center in Queens at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.

As part of the concert, Carpenter will be performing selections from his multiple iconic film scores, including "Escape from New York" and "Assault on Precinct 13," in addition to cuts from the 77 year-old's multiple standalone albums.

Carpenter's latest release, "Lost Themes IV: Noir," is the fourth installment in his "Lost Themes" musical series, which began with 2015's titular album — also Carpenter's debut. Each installment is based around a genre and is meant to sound like "lost themes" from a forgotten movie. It's a bit of reverse engineering from the horror maestro, whose scores for his films have grown to be as popular as the films they're from.

The John Carpenter Live in Concert event in New York will precede the artist's previously announced four-night Los Angeles residency at The Belasco, which will be held Oct. 24-25 and Oct. 31-Nov.1.
“As soon as we announced my four-night L.A. residency, the response was incredible, and I wanted to offer my fans on the East Coast a chance to hear our music without having to fly across the country,” Carpenter said, according to Bloody Disgusting. “With a one-night show, we’ll get to really dig deep into our musical souls, which is something I can’t wait to share.” ...read more read less
