A family was held at gunpoint during an overnight armed home invasion in Southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood.
Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to home located near Southwest 284th Street and blocked off nearby roads as they conducted their investigation.
“[…] Working a 29, ar
med home invasion,” radioed an officer.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, a man was standing in his driveway when he was ambushed by three armed subjects around midnight.
“He was ambushed by them. He did not know they were there. They approached him at gunpoint at took him into the home,” said a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office.
The masked men then entered the home. Once inside, one of the armed robbers held the family in one room at gunpoint as the other men ransacked the house.
“Once they took him inside of the home, they gathered the rest of the family. Took them into a room. One of them held the family at gunpoint and the other two ransacked the house,” said the spokesperson.
The family’s screams filled the air and echoed throughout the neighborhood.
“We heard the screams and then they stopped,” said a neighbor.
Those who live within the community told 7News they’re suspicious of three men they saw.
“Three males in dark clothing. That’s unusual over here,” said Jeff Bingham.
Hours after the incident, 7News spoke with the victim, York Valdez , who recounted the ordeal and said the men took his Rolex, his wife’s watch, expensive purses and clothes.
“There was a gun put at my head. They put me in the second floor for five hours. They took all my jewelry, my watches, that’s nothing. Right now I don’t care more [concerned about]the family,” said Valdez.
He speculates his large following on TikTok made him a target.
“I have a lot of followers on TikTok more than 5 million people see me every week, so around 20 million, 50 million per month. So I’m very famous on TikTok that’s what happening. Also, this happening because [inaudible] my own things that I do to give promotion to my business. They think that I have money in my house and this is the first time I bring some expensive watches to my house. I never bring the watch I always put it in my safe box. I never keep money with me, nothing, only my cards,” said Valdez.
The thieves also stole a car from the family’s driveway.
“Subjects fled in pearl white Cadillac,” radioed an officer.
An empty spot remains where their Cadillac was parked but other lavish cars, a boat, and a statue still sit in the driveway.
Neighbors are now left feeling concerned and uneasy as the subjects remain at large and the unknown lingers.
“Yeah it does like I say. A lot of activity has been going on around in this neighborhood,” said a neighbor.
“We pray for the family hope they’re okay,” said Bingham.
