LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Ten preschool students in Lexington were awarded scholarships Thursday as part of the Kentucky Educational Savings Plan Trust, also known as KY Saves 529.
Students gathered at Paul Laurence Dunbar High School to receive the recognition, which is part of the Blu
egrass Bright Start initiative. The program provides $2,500 scholarships to help families begin saving for their children’s future education.
Bluegrass Bright Start serves as a celebration of student achievement while reinforcing a commitment to supporting young learners in Lexington.
“It’s exciting to see an initiative like Bluegrass Bright Start because investing in families and education is the best way to secure a future for all of Lexington,” said Jo Carole Ellis, executive director of KHEAA.
Each selected student received an initial $250 contribution to a KY Saves 529 account, with opportunities to earn additional funds as they progress through Fayette County Public Schools. A 529 account can be used for various education-related expenses, including college tuition, graduate school, or apprenticeship programs.
