We're starting off with patchy dense fog and some drizzle along parts of the I-95 corridor, the DC-metro area and for areas closest to the coast. Take it slow with the varying visibility and some wet roadways.
Temperatures for your Thursday morning commute will reach into the upper 30s to mid-40
s and highs today will be cooler to the east, warmer to the west. This will be due to more clouds lingering in our eastern most areas along with a persistent east-northeast wind off the cold Chesapeake. Highs for DC will be around 60 today, 50s for Annapolis, while our western areas like the Shenandoah Valley, the I-81 corridor will reach into the mid to upper 60s thanks to sunny breaks that develop this afternoon.
Later today, closer to the evening commute and sunset, we could see some blue skies for the I-95 corridor, but most of the day, the clouds will win out.
Tonight, we cloud up again, which is not ideal for our view of the Total Lunar Eclipse. If you have some breaks in the cloud cover around 2:30am to 3:30am, you'll get a glimpse of the total lunar eclipse as the moon passes into the Earth's shadow, turning a shade of red. Our next lunar eclipse is March 2026, so if you sleep through your alarm or the clouds block our view this time around, at least there's a chance next year.
Friday, we'll have mainly cloudy skies with some sunny breaks with highs in the upper 50s to lower 60s.
The weekend will be warmer, but we're also tracking our next system that will bring rain chances. Saturday will be the drier of the two weekend days with some spotty showers as a warm front lifts in. Highs will reach into the mid-70s. Sunday could produce some strong to severe storms as a cold front swings through. The storms could have strong winds and heavy downpours, so you'll want to stay weather aware for your Sunday plans.
Behind this cold front, Monday will be cooler and breezy with a gradual clearing of the skies. Highs on St. Patrick's Day will reach into the lower 60s.
Tuesday will be mainly sunny with highs in the mid-60s while we reach back into the 70s Wednesday.
