WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – State tournament action kicked off with a bang as No. 8 seed Maize High took down top-ranked Shawnee Mission South in a nail-biting 6A showdown.

ficit to just one. Moments later, Brayden Myovela attacked the rim, finishing strong and drawing a foul to give the Eagles a one-point lead.

The drama only intensified in the final seconds. Down by one with nine ticks remaining, Maize inbounded the ball and put it in the hands of Myovela, who sliced past his defender for the go-ahead bucket — putting the Eagles up 49-48.
With time running out, Shawnee Mission South needed a quick response. But as they inbounded the ball, the Eagles swarmed, forcing a crucial turnover. A foul with just one second left sealed the upset, as Maize held on for the thrilling one-point victory.
