Kyle Fire Department prepares for high fire risk on Wednesday

KYLE, Texas (KXAN) -- The Hays County Office of Emergency Services said the county is now under a red flag warning on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m.

'Be prepared'
In anticipation of gusty winds and low humidity, the Kyle Fire Department spent part of Tuesday making sure their equipment was working for any potential fires.

"The fire danger is high once again and its supposed to continue throughout the week and from what we're hearing, next week as well," said Kyle Fire Chief Kyle Taylor. "Last year, we didn't have the wildfire season like we're seeing already starting."
Taylor told KXAN he's increasing crews.

A week ago, they experienced a similar situation. Kyle Fire responded to the Onion Creek Fire. It ultimately charred 190 acres.

The fire department used new resources to bring it under control, like one of their three additional brush trucks they got this year.
Emergency alert glitch
Hays County said its emergency alert system is ready for tomorrow as well. Last week, the county said a software glitch caused an alert to go out. It left some confused, because it didn't mention the specific reason.
Emergency alert confuses some in Hays County
Hays County Judge Ruben Becerra put out a statement notifying that it was fixed.
"We are committed to refining our processes and technology to ensure the highest level of public safety moving forward," Becerra wrote.
Hays County's burn ban lasts through Wednesday. The county said people can find the most up-to-date information on current alerts on the office of emergency services website. ...read more read less
