Bridge work to briefly affect travel on Routes 146, 146A
Mar 11, 2025
NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. (WPRI) — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) will be making a 24-hour traffic pattern change at the Route 146 interchange this week.
Beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, March 14, Route 146A South will be closed and drivers will be detoured to Route 146 using
Smithfield and Greenville roads, according to RIDOT.
Route 146 North will also be reduced to one lane of travel in the same area.
"The closures are necessary for steel installation for the Spring Brook Bridge, which will carry both directions of Route 146 over Route 146A South when finished," RIDOT wrote in a press release.
The closures are expected to last until 9 p.m. Saturday. Those who need to drive through that area are advised to give themselves some extra travel time.

RIDOT is in the process of repairing or replacing five bridges along the 146 corridor. The agency said the entire project is expected to be finished by summer 2026.
