SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The Metropolitan Transit System officially launched a new overnight bus service between San Ysidro and downtown San Diego Sunday. The new service began at 12:28 a.m. Sunday, making MTS a 24-hour operation for the first time in the agency's history, according to transit officials. MTS said the new route is expected to run every 30 minutes between 12:30 a.m. to 5 a.m., with stops along the way including South San Diego, Chula Vista, National City and Barrio Logan. If extra capacity is needed due to ridership levels throughout the first few months of the service, MTS said it could look at making changes to the schedule. The standard transit fare applies, which is $2.50 one-way for adults and $1.25 for seniors and passengers who are disabled or with Medicare.
