METAIRIE, La. (WGNO) — Efforts to revitalize Metairie's Fat City continued on Tuesday, Jan. 28, with the demolition of an abandoned apartment complex. Jefferson Parish Councilman Hans Liljeberg and officials with the Metairie Business Development District Board gathered at 3708 Division St. to kick off the demolition of the complex that contains three separate buildings. Who’s coming to Family Gras 2025? Parish officials said the apartment complex was in poor condition and a safety hazard to the area. I mean the walkability of Fat City; we do have the bones here to make this a great place. We just need to get rid of the last remaining seediness, and this is the beginning of that," said Liljeberg. Parish officials said the demolition is expected to take about three weeks.
