CharlotteMecklenburg Schools gathering community input for shaping a vision for the use of Artificial Intelligence in education
Jan 28, 2025
CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools (CMS) is taking a bold step into the future by inviting the community to help shape a visionary approach to Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education. This spring, CMS will unveil a district-wide AI Vision Statement that reflects the voices of its students, parents, educators, and community members.
“AI is quickly becoming a larger part of our lives,” said Dr. Crystal L. Hill, CMS Superintendent. “We need to work together now to create a vision for how we can best utilize this emerging technology to support students and schools. We can chart an innovative and responsible course to use AI in service of our four pillars of excellence: academic excellence, people excellence, operational excellence, and engagement excellence.”
To ensure the vision reflects community priorities, CMS is launching multiple opportunities for engagement:
A district-wide survey will be available starting February 3, 2025, enabling every stakeholder to share their perspectives.
Focus groups will be held with a range of advisory groups throughout February.
The district aims to explore how AI can be integrated into teaching, learning, and district operations. These input opportunities will guide CMS in crafting policies that align with its mission to create an innovative, inclusive, student-centered environment that supports the development of independent learners.
By listening to the community, CMS aims to develop an AI vision that prepares students for success in a rapidly evolving digital world and reflects the diverse needs of its stakeholders. CMS invites all community members to play an active role in shaping this important vision for the future of education.
The district’s work to develop an AI vision is being supported by ILO Group. ILO Group is a proudly women-owned education strategy and policy firm and has been at the forefront of safely and responsibly adopting this game-changing technology across school districts and states. Last year, ILO Group launched AiLO, a specialized division dedicated to the seamless and safe implementation of AI in education.
