DERBY, Kan. (KSNW) -- The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks warns fishermen that you cannot fish for paddlefish in the Arkansas River.

The fish was reintroduced to Kaw Lake in Oklahoma in the 1990s. The reservoir is fed by the Arkansas River.
What are the rarest fish you can catch in Kansas and where can you find them?
Recently, Kansas game wardens discovered dead paddlefish on the banks of the Arkansas River in Derby. They want to remind fishermen that Paddlefish Snagging Season doesn’t open until March 15 and only in designated posted areas.
The Arkansas River is not one of those areas.
In areas where paddlefish snagging is allowed, they can be caught and kept if hooked in the mouth. However, there is a daily creel limit of two.
