Scattered snow and rain showers move in Wednesday
Jan 27, 2025
A winter storm will move into New Mexico Wednesday. Snow could bring travel impacts to western and northern New Mexico through Thursday.
Warmer weather continued to move into New Mexico Monday. This also came with breezy winds, especially across the southwest part of the state. Tuesday will be similar to Monday with more mild temperatures and a breezy southwest wind. Some light rain and mountain snow will move into the Four Corners late Tuesday night.
Unfortunately, the winter storm we've been keeping an eye on will be moving faster and farther north across New Mexico this week. This means we will be seeing lower snowfall amounts and snow farther north. Scattered snow will move into western and northern New Mexico Wednesday morning, with a few spotty showers in eastern parts of the state. With above freezing temperatures in valley locations in central New Mexico Wednesday, it's likely the Albuquerque Metro will only see rain through the day. However, locally moderate to heavy snow may fall in western and northern New Mexico, especially in the higher elevations Wednesday evening. If we see any travel impacts out of the storm across the state, it will be Wednesday afternoon through Thursday morning. A little bit of light snow will be possible Wednesday night/Thursday morning in the Albuquerque Metro, but accumulations will be less than 1".
Snow and rain will already be wrapping up by Thursday morning. Some wrap around moisture will bring a few flurries Thursday morning in western New Mexico and light snow from the northern mountains to Clayton. Dry weather returns statewide Thursday afternoon.
Warmer weather quickly returns Friday with this warming trend continuing into early next week. Much warmer weather will continue to move in a week from Monday with near-record high temperatures possible.
