Park City police blotter: Homeless man ‘causing problems’ on Main Street

The Park City Police Department continues to receive reports of homelessness or circumstances that point to someone without a place to live.Homelessness is uncommon in Park City, but the cases are notable with there being limited resources in the city and surrounding Summit County. The recent cases included:On Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2:42 p.m., the police received a report of what was described as possible “homeless sleeping quarters” outside a storage space somewhere along Kearns Boulevard. The person who contacted the police wanted the unspecified items removed, according to public police logs.
On Thursday, Jan. 23, at 6:03 p.m., someone at a business on Sidewinder Drive requested an officer to “help escort employees to their cars.” The person indicated “they have a homeless problem there and they are concerned for their safety,” public police logs explained.
On Jan. 23 at 12:27 p.m., the police received a report of a person, described as a homeless man, “causing problems” on Main Street. The person vandalized carpet and was “using (a) parking garage as (a) restroom,” the police were told. The person was not at the scene at the time of the report, but the police were told he arrives at approximately 1 a.m. The police classified the case as suspected vagrancy.Other incidents reported to the Police Department recently included:On Sunday, Jan. 26, at at 10:22 p.m., a collision involving a bus and a van was reported in the area of Park Avenue and 7th Street. The police indicated the accident disrupted traffic. Minor damage to the vehicles was reported. Nobody was injured, the police said.The police at 7:27 p.m. received a report of an accident on Park Avenue. The police were told nobody was injured and the vehicles did not block traffic.Someone reportedly “dropped a bag” and then left in front of a Main Street restaurant. The person who left the bag “quickly walked away,” the police were told. The department described the circumstances as suspicious.A man who was suspected to be intoxicated was reported on Main Street at 4:46 p.m. The person was not combative, the police said. The department logged the case as suspected disorderly conduct.A hit-and-run traffic accident was reported on Snow Creek Drive at 4:21 p.m. The suspect vehicle is a gray Prius, the police were told.A band at a business on Lowell Avenue reportedly was “playing very loudly” on Lowell Avenue at 3:29 p.m. The police logged the case as suspected disturbing the peace.A police officer stopped a driver after the vehicle reportedly “drove through the bus only area” on Lowell Avenue. The driver received a verbal warning.The police at 8:16 a.m. received a complaint from someone on Main Street about people “using his garbage bins.” It was the second consecutive day of the issue, the police were told. The police categorized the case as a citizen complaint rather than a suspected criminal matter.Someone on Lowell Avenue at 2:32 a.m. reported the music, described as “extremely loud,” was left on outside a lodge. The police logged the case as suspected disturbing the peace.On Saturday, Jan. 25, at 7:07 p.m., a snowplow operator indicated they could “not plow this street because of the way the cars are parked.” The plow was on American Saddler Drive.A slide-off accident was reported in the area of King Road and Main Street at 4:35 p.m. the accident involved a Ford Explorer, the police said.A traffic accident was reported at Homestake Road and Park Avenue at 12:21 p.m. Public police logs indicated a vehicle “slid into” a stop sign, knocking it over. Nobody was injured, the police said.Water was reported to be “flooding the driveways” along Annie Oakley Drive at 11:39 a.m. The police said municipal streets workers would be dispatched “to push the water off the” road.” The case was described as a utility issue.A fight was reported somewhere along Main Street at 1:04 a.m. The people involved left, the police said, and the logs did not provide details.On Friday, Jan. 24, at 9:05 p.m., an officer pulled over a driver on Norfolk Avenue after watching the vehicle travel in the wrong direction on nearby Park Avenue. The person did not have a valid driver license, the police said.Unspecified vandalism was reported was reported at a business on Main Street at 12:28 p.m. The police logged the case as suspected criminal mischief.Music was playing on a a back porch on Rothwell Road at 1:03 a.m. The person who filed the report unsuccessfully attempted to contact the people in the other unit, according to public police logs. The agency described the case as suspected disturbing the peace.On Thursday, Jan. 23, at 6:35 p.m., someone on Marsac Avenue indicated to the police the traffic was “not polite.” The person was unable to enjoy the living room “because they’re waving a big red light around outside,” according to public police logs. The police described the case as a traffic complaint rather than a suspected criminal matter.On Wednesday, Jan. 22, at 3:06 p.m., graffiti was reported on Swede Alley. A City Hall code enforcer filed the report. The police were told there was an ongoing issue with graffiti.
