Former Holyoke Auxiliary Police Chief dies at 86

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) - The Holyoke Police Department is sending condolences after the death of former Auxiliary Police Chief Ronald Dietrich.
Holyoke works to protect rights of migrants in city
Dietrich passed away on January 22nd and led the volunteer police force for 38 years, and served the city for more than four decades.
His obituary states that he was 86 years old and was born and raised in Holyoke. He graduated from Perpetual Help High School and served for nine years in the Army National Guard. Dietrich worked for the Wall Street Journal for 41 years as an Administrator and Supervisor of Circulation Operation for the National Distribution of Dow Jones Publications before retiring in 2001.
His first assignment with the Holyoke Police Department was duty during the St. Patrick’s Day Parade on High Street in 1960. He was also a member of Junior Jaycees’ and worked on many Beauty Pageants, as well as being a longtime member of the Beaver's Club.
Calling hours are Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. hosted at Messier Funeral Home on Northampton Street.
