INDIANAPOLIS -- The Indianapolis Fire Department battled an apartment fire that displaced 18 people and multiple animals early Monday morning. According to officials, IFD responded to multiple calls of a fire with people trapped on balconies at an apartment at 822 Antique Court inside the Edison at Meridian Hills. The Pike Township Fire Department assisted at the scene. The initial calls came in around 12:15 a.m. When firefighters arrived, they located an apartment with heavy flames showing from the roof. Officials said residents were able to evacuate on their own. One person jumped off the balcony. In total, 13 adults, five children, two dogs, 12 cats and a turtle were displaced after the fire. There were no injuries, IFD said. IFD Victims Assistance and apartment management is working to provide shelter for those affected.
