FRANCESVILLE, Ind. (WISH) — A person died late Sunday afternoon after being shot by a Jasper County sheriff’s deputy during a traffic stop.
The suspect’s name and age have not been released.
According to a release from Indiana State Police, a deputy with the Jasper County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop on State Road 14 east of County Road 475 East. That’s right along the Jasper-Pulaski County lines.
At some point during the traffic stop, the deputy tried to arrest the driver, but they resisted. A fight broke out between the two, and the deputy shot at the suspect, striking them at least once.
The person died at the scene. Investigators later confirmed that the suspect had a firearm during the traffic stop.
