HARTFORD—Time travel to Pittsburgh in 1969, where Memphis Lee’s beloved diner welcomes and unites locals during divisive times. Hartford Stage presents “Two Trains Running”, which runs from January 23 to February 16, 2025.  “Faced with declining business at his restaurant and a rapidly changing neighborhood, Memphis and those around him fight for what they believe they deserve – a fair price for the restaurant, lottery winnings, and a job,” reads the Hartford Stage description.  This inspiring performance comes from the mind of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright August Wilson of “Fences” and “The Piano Lesson”. First premiered in 1990, “Two Trains Running” explores economic and racial issues within the Civil Rights Era.  “‘Two Trains Running’ features the finely tuned rhythms that define Wilson’s work and exemplifies why he is one of the most revered and produced American playwrights of our time,” reads the Hartford Stage description. The cast includes Godfrey L. Simmons, Jr. as Memphis, Jerome Preston Bates as Holloway, David Jennings as Hambone, Rafael Jordan as Sterling, Postell Pringle as Wolf, Taji Senior as Risa, and Jeorge Bennett Watson as West.  The creative team includes Director Gilbert McCauley, Lawrence Moten on scenic design, Devario Simmons on costume design, Xavier Pierce on lighting design, Gregory Robinson on Original Music & Sound Design, J. Jared Janas on Wig, Hair & Makeup Design, Voice Coach Cynthia Santos DeCure, Intimacy Coordinator Kelsey Rainwater, Stage Manager lark hackshaw, Assistant Stage Manager Adalhia Ivette Hart, and casting by Alaine Alldaffer & Lisa Donadio. Tickets start at $30. Learn more and purchase tickets at https://www.hartfordstage.org/, by phone at 860-527-5151, or in person through the box office at 50 Church Street, Hartford, CT.
