FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) -- Several groups in northeast Indiana are offering free tax help this filing season.
United Way of Allen County, Volunteer Center, and Catholic Charities Diocese of Fort Wayne-South Bend are partnering to offer the VITA program in Allen, DeKalb, Noble, and Steuben Counties.
Volunteer Income Tax Assistance is available through April 12th for residents of those counties with income under $67,000. IRS certified volunteer tax preparers will help file taxes and claim available credits.
VITA involves drop-off only locations. The Allen County site is at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1101 S. Lafayette Street. Residents in DeKalb, Noble, and Steuben Counties can contact Catholic Charities' Auburn Office at (260) 385-6598 to schedule an appointment to drop-off tax documents. You can find more information on VITA and required documents here.
The Allen County Public Library is partnering with the AARP Foundation's Tax-Aide to provide free in-person tax assistance and preparation. The program runs through April 15th at select ACPL locations and is open to all taxpayers, regardless of age.
Assistance is provided by appointment only. Those details and a checklist of necessary documentation are available here.
