Midweek storm brings widespread rain, severe threat
Jan 27, 2025
AUSTIN (KXAN) -- Temperatures will warm nicely towards the end of the month, but this week's weather focus looks to be the opportunity for much-needed, heavy rain coming in midweek.
We start the new work week with cloudy to overcast skies and spotty mist/drizzle/light rain. Very minimal rainfall is expected today, but it marks the start of a turn to wetter weather ahead of an approaching storm system.
Tuesday will look and feel similar to today - cloudy, spotty light rain and highs in the 50s. By Wednesday, our next storm arrives.
An upper level low moving in from the west will result in scattered to widespread storms and showers late Wednesday into Thursday. There is both a low risk for severe storms and localized flooding during this time.
Low risk (1 to 2 out of 5) of severe storms Wednesday along and west of I-35
Low severe storm threat continues Thursday
Forecast rain totals look healthy with most of the area likely to pick up 1"-2" by end-of-the-day Thursday. A few isolated locations may see 2"-3".
Low risk of localized flooding on Thursday
