WASHINGTON (DC News Now) -- Members of the D.C. community spoke out Sunday after the Philadelphia Eagles beat the Washington Commanders 55-23, ending a remarkable season for Washington. The Commanders had not played in a conference championship game in 33 years. Following their loss, the team is headed home, and the Eagles are headed to the Super Bowl. (AP Photo/Chris Szagola) "Although we didn't win today, the future for the team is bright," said Rep. Eleanor Holmes Norton, D- D.C. "Thank you Commanders for bringing us the best DC football season in 30 years." D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser congratulated the team, calling it a "magical season." Council encouraged the Commanders to hold their "heads high." "Take pride in your remarkable new team culture. You brought back the kind of Sunday vibes that we in the District haven’t felt in decades. Our future is bright. Honestly, thanks," the council said, in part. D.C. Councilmember Phil Mendelson also expressed his support. "Good fight Commanders! HAIL of a turnaround from last season" wrote Chairman Mendelson. "Excited to see what's in store next year." Fans of both teams gathered to watch the game at the Deanwood Community Center in Northeast. The D.C. Department of Parks and Recreation hosted the event. "Just disappointed right now," William Watts, a Commanders' fan who attended the watch party, told DC News Now after the loss. However, fan Doris Bishop had a different take. "We got to the playoffs, and we're very ecstatic about it," Bishop said. "It's been a long time." The Super Bowl is set for Sunday, Feb. 9.
