PHOTOS: Fire destroys townhouse in Wheaton, multiple families displaced

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (DC News Now) -- Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS) said multiple families were displaced after a fire destroyed a townhouse in Wheaton early Sunday.

Crews said that at about 2:50 a.m., they were sent to the 10700 block of Lester St. for a townhouse fire.
When first responders arrived at the scene, they saw fire on all levels of the home.

MCFRS said that while crews were battling the fire, the floor collapsed. About 60 firefighters responded to the scene.
The home's occupants had evacuated after they heard the smoke alarm, and no injuries were reported.

The fire was confined to the townhouse and was put out. However, the electric meter/utilities were damaged, which impacted about 10 townhouses.
PEPCO expects the power to be out for about 5 to 6 hours, according to MCFRS. Ride On buses were at the scene to provide temporary shelter.
