Tonight will be mostly clear early on; after midnight, some high clouds will work into the DMV, but regardless of the clouds, it will be a chilly night ahead. Forecast overnight lows will range from the upper teens in the mountains to the upper 20s around the Beltway. Some high clouds will be seen Monday morning, but they will also dissipate during the afternoon as one of a few dry fronts passes through the region, making it primarily sunny to start the work week. It will also be a little warmer than this weekend as the thermometer looks to rise into the mid-and upper 40s. Behind the passage of the dry front, the winds look to increase, especially across the higher elevations, as we head into late Monday afternoon and Tuesday. The National Weather Service has multiple wind alerts from west of the Blue Ridge to the Allegany Front region. High wind warnings, watches, and advisories are in place in this region from midnight Monday to noon Tuesday. By mid-afternoon Tuesday, the high winds will begin to relax quickly and feel better as highs reach the freezing mark in the mountains and around 50 degrees in D.C. An Arctic cold front is set to cross the region on Wednesday and into Wednesday night. This front will bring some accumulating mountain snow showers and a return to windy weather conditions to the area. Current thinking is that a couple of inches of snow is possible, significantly above elevations of 1500 feet along and west of the Allegheny Front. In addition, another round of winds gusting between 20 to 30 mph can be expected both Wednesday and Thursday afternoon. Regarding temperatures, the warmest day is forecast to be Wednesday, where many across the DMV will experience upper 40s to upper 50s outside the mountains. Some locations south of Washington DC could even punch 60 degrees. Thursday's blustery northwesterly winds will continue to impact the region, gusting between 20 and 30 mph, making it feel much colder than the prior afternoon. A few rain/snow showers may also be seen east of the mountains behind Wednesday's front. On Thursday, expect highs in the upper 30s and low to mid-40s with 20s over the mountains. Unlike the prior week, which was filled with frigid temperatures, we'll see a quick turnaround with daytime highs heading into Friday and the weekend. Heading into next weekend, the overall pattern is wetter, with showers coming in from the southwest as a significant storm system could bring a little bit of everything—the potential for a wintry mix out toward the mountains and light rain showers elsewhere in the DMV. 7-Day Forecast: Tonight: Partly cloudy to mainly clear skies.
