Evacuation orders lifted for some residents near Border 2 Fire

SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office on Sunday announced changes to the evacuation orders and warnings in place for the Border 2 Fire in the Otay Mountain area, following progress in containment efforts.
According to the latest update, areas under evacuation orders remain marked in red on the official map (below), while evacuation warnings are designated in yellow. Residents in the yellow and green areas, which are no longer under evacuation warnings, are now allowed to return home.

However, authorities continue to advise caution, encouraging residents to remain ready to evacuate again if fire conditions shift. These evacuation orders will remain in place until the situation is reassessed at a later time.

Several road closures have also been lifted. State Route 94 is open in both directions from Honey Springs Road to State Route 188, while Alta Road near Otay Mesa Road can now be traveled on.
However, Otay Lakes Road remained closed westbound from State Route 94 on Sunday, as well as Otay Lakes Road at Wueste Road.
Authorities are urging drivers to remain cautious in the area, as firefighters continue to work to secure fire lines. Dust, noise and smoke may be present throughout the region, but there is no immediate threat to the public from the remaining fire activity, according to the Sheriff's Office.
As of Sunday afternoon, the Border 2 Fire was at 6,625 acres with 10% containment.
