SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) -- South Dakota lawmakers say they're ready for the governorship of former lieutenant governor Larry Rhoden. Rhoden took office after Kristi Noem was officially confirmed as Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security Saturday. State representatives Greg Jamison and Erik Muckey say they are looking forward to Rhoden's leadership. Who is South Dakota’s new governor, Larry Rhoden? "In the past, I've had bills that were killed by some people who came and told me, 'Hey, the governor doesn't like your bill, so we're going to stop it as best we can.' I would look for this new governor to probably come tell me himself and say, 'Hey, I don't like your bill. I don't think we should pass it. Here's why. Maybe we can come to a compromise or something,'" Jamison said. "Working across the aisle, I know Gov. Rhoden is somebody that we can have a conversation with, an open door with and have that conversation about pressing issues, so I think that'll be a refreshing change of pace for all of us in the legislature and for South Dakotans," Muckey said. This week, lawmakers also expect to begin the process of appointing a new lieutenant governor.
