INDIANAPOLIS — An Indianapolis woman has been arrested for neglect of a dependent resulting in death. According to a public police report, law enforcement launched a death investigation in the 6300 block of Newberry Road around 6:35 p.m. Saturday. During its investigation, the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department determined a 2-year-old had died at an apartment complex in the area. While the report does not provide much additional detail on the investigation, it does indicate 33-year-old Chantell Monae Gardner was arrested by IMPD. Per the report, Gardner has been preliminarily charged with one count of neglect of a dependent under the age of 14 resulting in death — a Level 1 Felony. The maximum penalty for a Level 1 Felony in Indiana is a 40-year prison sentence and a fine of up to $10,000. As of this article's publication, little additional information on Gardner's case had been made available. This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
