A cold front passed through Indianapolis overnight Sunday, dropping our temperatures slightly for the day. However, highs still managed to reach the low-to-mid 30s across the region! While numbers like this are still below normal, it's still a nice change of pace compared to last week's cold weather. After tonight, a nice and constant warm-up is on the way for much of this week. Mostly quiet, dry and breezy conditions arrive A noticeable warming trend will start Monday, thanks to the return of southwest flow. This airflow allows warmer air to return to central Indiana. Monday calls for highs in the upper 30s to near 40° as upper-level ridging takes place. Partly to mostly sunny skies are expected along with some gusty winds. A very tight pressure gradient will be responsible for the gusty winds. It's possible spots in far NE central Indiana could see some lake effect snow flurries late Monday night but those chances are very low. The warmest day and winner of the week will be Tuesday. Look for highs well into the 40s with several spots potentially hitting 50° for a high temperature! The southwest breezy conditions will also aid in making this happen. By Wednesday night, a weak cold front will pass through the region. Much like the frontal passage very early Sunday, a brief cool down will come in its wake for late Wednesday-early Thursday. This will be the coolest of the period with lows in the low-to-mid 20s! An area of high pressure will move in following that weak FROPA (frontal passage) allowing for more mild and quiet weather Thursday. By late Thursday night, our next weathermaker comes into view. Given that we will be above freezing, rain chances go up Thursday night and Friday with precip continuing for much of that day. Expect the weekend to start on a wet note with the system providing the rain. The opening days of February 2025 are expected to be at or above normal (average highs in the upper 30s). But we're beginning to see some signs of another potential cool down and more active period coming into view after next weekend. Stay tuned!
