Sunshine is cruising across the Queen City skyline for January’s final Sunday afternoon, but clouds and shower chances return overnight into Monday. Don’t be shocked if some wet flakes or a few sleet pellets mix in at first, but the vast majority of the Piedmont and Foothills will only see rain. While heavy rain likely won’t be an issue, wet roads and a few lingering showers may impact your Monday morning commute. The rain clears out by noon, but stubborn clouds will keep temperatures below 50º for most communities for the first day of the workweek. Northwesterly flow and temperatures in the 30s will allow for snow to accumulate up to 3″ in the High Country through Monday afternoon. Don’t be discouraged by the cooler start to the week. Big-time warmth swells into the Carolinas from the southwest as highs jump near 60º in the Metro on Tuesday. The good times roll into our Hump Day as Charlotte will easily see its warmest air of 2025 thus far; mid-60s are a strong possibility across the Piedmont and Foothills. A dry backdoor cold front will cool us down as we close out January on Thursday and Friday, but highs will cruise near 60º by next Saturday. Medium-range models are bringing scattered showers – and maybe a storm or two – into the Carolinas next weekend. Tonight: Clouds build. Scattered showers late. Low: 38°. Wind: SW 5-10. Monday: AM scattered showers. PM mostly cloudy. High: 47°. Wind: SW 5-10. Monday Night: Clearing out. Chilly. Low: 30°. Wind: SW 5-10. Tuesday: Sunny skies. Warmer highs. High: 60°. SW 5-15. Gusts: 20+
