The Ohio Department of Natural Resources has awarded over $130,000 to Grand River Marine, Inc. to support substantial infrastructure improvements, including replacing the full-service marina’s outdated pump-out system. Officials stated that the current system has become unusable due to the challenges posed by high water levels, adding that the investment — through the federal Clean Vessel Act grant program — is “essential” to keeping Lake Erie clean. “By supporting infrastructure that enables responsible waste disposal, we’re helping to protect one of Ohio’s most treasured natural resources while supporting the boating community that relies on it,” said ODNR Director Mary Mertz. With the new system, the department confirmed, Grand River Marine will provide boaters with a reliable means to safely dispose of wastewater, supporting the overall health of the lake and its ecosystems. The project will connect the new pump-out unit to the marina’s existing septic tank, install a concrete pad and run power on a dedicated circuit. Additionally, a no-clog lift pump and control panel will be installed to ensure long-term functionality and reliability. The project is expected to be completed by June 30, 2026. Officials added that the total cost of the project will be covered through a combination of the funding from ODNR totaling $32,628.79 and the CVA via the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, totaling $97,886. The award also “demonstrates Ohio’s commitment to the sustainability of its natural resources and continued environmental stewardship.” The Grand River Marine serves the boating community by offering a variety of services to support recreational boating, including docking, repair services and maintenance. Through the funding, the facility will continue its commitment to offering high-quality services while adhering to environmental best practices to protect the lake, officials added. “We want to thank ODNR and the CVA for funding the significant improvements to the pump-out system,” said Grand River Village Mayor Jennifer Hood. “Our boating community will appreciate the upgrade, and, most importantly, the project helps protect our beautiful Grand River.” For more information, visit ohiodnr.gov.
